Invest in yourself
We all experience challenges in life, and sometimes it is difficult to see the way forward. Counselling can help clarify things and discover what is best for you.
Whatever your circumstances, you will be listened to with compassion and acceptance in a confidential, safe space where you can explore emotions, gain insight and develop your own strengths and resilience.

What happens next?
We aim to offer an initial discussion appointment with one of our counsellors soon after you contact us.
This session is intended to explore whether counselling is the best fit for you.
You’ll have the opportunity to:
- discuss your concerns
- talk about what counselling and psychotherapy could offer you
- find out how the service works
If you and the counsellor agree that counselling would be helpful, you will then be placed on our waiting list.
Counselling sessions
We offer between 12 and 16 counselling sessions for each client, depending on your individual needs.
Each session is 50 minutes long, and will be offered at the same time and day each week throughout the 12 week programme.
Counselling is available 9am-7pm Monday to Thursday,
9am-5pm on Friday, and 9am-1pm on Saturday.
All of our counsellors are trained to a minimum of diploma level in counselling and have a minimum of 1.5 hours of supervision a month to support them. They are all members of BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) or a similar organisation. We occasionally have students in their second year of training but you would be asked if this was ok with you. You do not have to accept sessions with a student, you can request to be seen by a fully qualified counsellor.
There is no charge for the counselling offered. However, donations of any amount, small or large, are always welcome from anyone who wishes to support us to continue helping others.
You can also choose to pay to join our Fast-Track service. This has a shorter waiting list, but costs £40 per counselling session. All profits are invested in supporting our wider counselling service.
Regular attendance at counselling sessions is an important part of the commitment you make to your mental wellbeing journey, especially if the issues being discussed are difficult ones for you.
We know that it is sometimes necessary to cancel or change appointments due to circumstances beyond your control, however, we ask that you notify us as least 24 hours in advance of any change wherever possible.
Missing appointments by simply not turning up is disrespectful to your counsellor.
Each missed appointment costs Mindspace £37, which as a charity we can ill afford.
If you cancel your appoint late or do not attend your sessions twice, your sessions will end unless there are extenuating circumstances. This is to avoid negatively impacting other people on our waiting list who need our support.
Your counselling sessions are confidential. There are very limited exceptions to this where a counsellor has reasonable concerns about a danger to you or others. These exceptions and our detailed confidentiality policy will be discussed with you as part of the initial session.
The Mindspace Counselling Service is an organisational member of the professional body the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy). All Mindspace counsellors work within the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy’s Ethical Framework.
