THINKING ABOUT THINKING

The “Thinking about Thinking” group offers a space to explore how we think. The benefits, the pitfalls, and the subtle but powerful distinction between thoughts and thinking.

“We are the thinker of the thoughts, not the thoughts.”

— Julia Cameron, The Artist’s Way

If you identify as an overthinker, you’re not alone. Overthinking is a cognitive habit marked by excessive rumination, replaying past scenarios, and trying to anticipate every possible future outcome. It can feel like your mind is on a constant loop — analyzing, worrying, second-guessing — yet never landing on clarity or resolution.

Why Overthinking Matters

While thinking deeply can be a strength, overthinking often becomes a trap. Here’s how it can impact daily life:

  1. Increased Stress and Anxiety
The constant loop of “what-ifs” and worst-case scenarios can heighten anxiety, making it difficult to feel at ease.

  2. Decision Paralysis
With so many possibilities spinning in your mind, making even simple decisions can feel overwhelming — often leading to inaction.

  3. Negative Thought Patterns
Overthinking tends to zoom in on problems and potential pitfalls, creating a skewed and pessimistic view of situations.

  4. Impaired Problem-Solving
Ironically, the more we overanalyze, the harder it becomes to see solutions clearly — thinking becomes circular instead of productive.

  5. Strained Relationships
Overthinkers may read too much into situations, misinterpret intentions, or struggle to communicate clearly, leading to unnecessary conflict.

  6. Reduced Productivity
Mental energy spent on rumination can drain focus, creativity, and motivation — making it hard to stay present or complete tasks.

What We Explore Together

In this group, we look at ways to break the cycle of overthinking and reconnect with the present. Through discussion, reflection, and shared experience, we’ll explore tools like:

  • Mindfulness and grounding techniques

  • Reframing and cognitive restructuring

  • Recognizing unhelpful thought loops

  • Strengthening self-awareness and compassion

This space is for anyone curious about their inner world — especially those ready to make peace with their thoughts and reclaim mental clarity.

Please note that our courses are subject to a minimum number of sign-ups, if we do not receive the minimum number of sign-ups unfortunately the group will be cancelled.
You will be emailed a Wellbeing Form which must be completed before you start the course.
Please let us know at the earliest available opportunity if you no longer wish to attend the group and we can give your space to someone on our waiting list.
