About Mindspace

Mindspace is a community-based mental health charity that supports and promotes positive mental wellbeing for people across Perth and the surrounding area. Funding comes from NHS Tayside, Perth & Kinross Council, the Scottish Government, and charitable donations.

We provide a safe and supportive environment through counselling, peer support, and our Recovery College.

About the Role

We are looking for skilled and compassionate counsellors to provide a free and accessible counselling service for people living in Perth & Kinross. You will maintain high standards of delivery, protect client confidentiality, and contribute to the ongoing development of the counselling service.

Working Pattern

Perth: Hours should include at least one evening finishing at 7pm, or a Saturday morning shift from 9am to 1pm.

Rural locations across Perth and Kinross: Daytime hours, Monday to Friday.

Possible rural locations include: Aberfeldy, Blairgowrie, and Pitlochry.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide a skilled, compassionate, and accessible counselling service across a range of agreed settings.
  • Work closely with the Senior Counsellor.
  • Take part in regular external counselling supervision at an agreed level.
  • Maintain confidentiality appropriate to the setting.
  • Follow good practice and ethical guidelines as required by BACP.
  • Keep accurate client records and notes using the organisation’s CRM system.
  • Liaise with administrative staff regarding new clients and other relevant matters.
  • Maintain registration with BACP, COSCA, or an equivalent professional body.
  • Hold your own professional indemnity insurance and current ICO registration.

What We’re Looking For

Essential Qualifications and Professional Requirements

  • A counselling diploma
  • A minimum of 100 hours of supervised counselling practice
  • Registration with BACP, COSCA, or an equivalent professional body
  • Regular individual counselling supervision

Essential Experience

  • Experience of delivering short-term counselling of up to 12 sessions
  • Experience of working with adults, children, and young people
  • Experience of carrying out counselling assessments, particularly in relation to risk
  • Knowledge and practical use of counselling monitoring and evaluation systems

Knowledge and Personal Qualities

  • Competence in working within a recognised theoretical framework
  • Understanding of, and willingness to follow, the BACP Statement of Ethics and Code of Practice
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality appropriate to the setting
  • Knowledge and understanding of child protection and vulnerable adult issues
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • A motivated, enthusiastic, and self-aware approach
  • Ability to work independently while remaining mindful of accountability

Desirable

  • Accredited or eligible for accreditation with a professional counselling or psychotherapy organisation
  • Qualified to work with young people
  • Significant post-qualifying CPD
  • Experience of working in the voluntary sector
  • Knowledge of services for people in Perth and Kinross
  • Experience of promoting equal opportunities and cultural diversity
