About Mindspace

Mindspace is a community-based mental health charity that supports and promotes positive mental wellbeing for people across Perth and the surrounding area. Funding comes from NHS Tayside, Perth & Kinross Council, the Scottish Government, and charitable donations.

We provide a safe and supportive environment through counselling, peer support, and our Recovery College.

About the Role

As a Young People’s Counsellor, you will provide a professional counselling service to children and young people aged 10–18 within school settings, with some work supporting P6 and P7 pupils in the community. You will work collaboratively to maintain high standards of care, safeguarding, and ethical practice.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide a skilled, compassionate counselling service to children and young people
  • Offer a calm and confidential space where young people feel heard and supported
  • Carry out counselling assessments and review therapeutic progress
  • Maintain accurate records and school reporting documentation
  • Work closely with the Senior Counsellor to ensure consistent standards of care
  • Practice ethically in line with BACP guidelines and safeguarding procedures
  • Take part in supervision, wellbeing meetings, and reflective practice

What We’re Looking For

Essential Qualifications and Professional Requirements

  • A recognised counselling diploma
  • Specialist training in counselling children and young people
  • Current membership of BACP or COSCA

Experience and Knowledge

  • Experience working therapeutically with children and young people
  • Understanding safeguarding, child protection, and confidentiality
  • Use of a recognised theoretical framework
  • Experience delivering assessments and evaluation systems

Personal Qualities

  • Friendly, approachable, and professional
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Organised and reliable, with good caseload management
  • Able to travel between schools in the locality
