Our trained counsellors can help you:
- explore the issues you are facing
- gain a better understanding of yourself
- build resilience and empower you to make better life choices
- enhance your communication skills to maintain healthy relationships
Invest in yourself
We all experience challenges in life, and sometimes it is difficult to see the way forward. Counselling can help clarify things and discover what is best for you.
Whatever your circumstances, you will be listened to with compassion and acceptance in a confidential, safe space where you can explore emotions, gain insight and develop your own strengths and resilience.
Once Our Waiting List Re-Opens
We aim to offer an initial discussion appointment with one of our counsellors soon after you contact us.
This session is intended to explore whether counselling is the best fit for you.
You’ll have the opportunity to:
- discuss your concerns
- talk about what counselling and psychotherapy could offer you
- find out how the service works
If you and the counsellor agree that counselling would be helpful, you will then be placed on our waiting list.

All of our counsellors are trained to a minimum of diploma level in counselling and have a minimum of 1.5 hours of supervision a month to support them. They are all members of BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) or a similar organisation. We occasionally have students in their second year of training but you would be asked if this was ok with you. You do not have to accept sessions with a student, you can request to be seen by a fully qualified counsellor.
There is no charge for the counselling offered. However, donations of any amount, small or large, are always welcome from anyone who wishes to support us to continue helping others.
You can also choose to pay to join our Fast-Track service. This has a shorter waiting list, but costs £40 per counselling session. All profits are invested in supporting our wider counselling service.
Regular attendance at counselling sessions is an important part of the commitment you make to your mental wellbeing journey, especially if the issues being discussed are difficult ones for you.
We understand that things can come up unexpectedly, and sometimes you might not be able to make your session. If that happens, we just ask that you let us know as early as you can.
When someone doesn’t attend their appointment without letting us know, it means that time can’t be offered to someone else who may be waiting for support. It also costs Mindspace £37 per missed session — a cost that’s difficult for us to manage as a small charity.
If you miss a session without giving notice, we’ll ask you to cover the cost of that appointment before your counselling can continue. This helps us make sure we’re using our resources fairly and supporting as many people as possible.
Thank you for helping us keep our service accessible and sustainable for everyone.
Your counselling sessions are confidential. There are very limited exceptions to this where a counsellor has reasonable concerns about a danger to you or others. These exceptions and our detailed confidentiality policy will be discussed with you as part of the initial session.
The Mindspace Counselling Service is an organisational member of the professional body the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy). All Mindspace counsellors work within the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy’s Ethical Framework.
